Armenian-born composer Artur Akshelyan explores experience through dynamism and lyricism, intersected with memory and multicultural impact. His works have been presented by leading ensembles including Lemanic Modern Ensemble, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Contrechamps, Trio Saeitenwind, the Arditti Quartet, Nouvel Ensemble Moderne, Ensemble Divertimento, Ensemble Maja, and the Basel Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He has received commissions from a range of respected institutions and ensembles including Radio France (Paris), Ensemble Contrechamps (Geneva), Boston New Music Initiative, the Orpheus Competition (Switzerland), the Dilijan Chamber Music Series (USA), Festival Flagey (Brussels), and others.
His music has earned several international honors, including Second Prize at the Basel Composition Competition, the Grand Prix at the Geneva Composition Competition, Honorable Mention from Gaudeamus Muziekweek and others. Most recently, he won the the Left Coast Composition Contest in USA and 12th Annual Commissioning Competition by the Boston New Music Initiative.
As a conductor, he has collaborated with Ensemble Assonance and Ensemble Polymorphia. He has taught at the American University of Armenia and the Yerevan State Conservatory. Since 2023, he moved to the United States and is currently a doctoral candidate at the Florida State University.
